and factories had been working a long shift fourteen or even more bours a day. since the Industrial Revolution in the 16 and 190 centuries in Europe and the US, the workers in mills and factories had been working a long shift, fourteen or even more hours a day.

On May 1 in 1886. Inspired by the trade unions, half of the workers at the McCormac Harvesting

Machine Company in Chicago went on strike demanding an eight-hour workday. Two days later, a workers rally was held near the McCormic Harvester Machine Company and about 6000 workers jotned fit. The rally was addressed by the labour leaders. They urged the workers to stand together, to go on with their struggle and not to give in to their bosses. At one point of the rally, some strike breakers started leaving the meeting place. The strikers went down the street to bring them back. Suddenly about 200 policemen attacked them with clubs and revolvers. One striker was killed instantly, five or six others were seriously wounded and many others were injured.

The events of May 1. 1886 are a reminder that workers will continue to be exploited until they stand up and speak out to gain better working conditions, better pay and better lives.         [২০২৬ সালের সিলেবাস বহির্ভূত]

Once upon a time, there was a king called Midas. He was very rich and he always longed for more riches. Moreover, he was fond of gold though he had a lot of it...................................

Answer :

One day, while King Midas was admiring his treasure, a mysterious stranger appeared and granted him a single wish. Without a moment's hesitation, Midas asked for the "Golden Touch," wishing that everything he touched would turn into glittering gold. The stranger warned him to think carefully, but the greedy king insisted, and the wish was granted.

The next morning, Midas was overjoyed to find his bedsheets and furniture turning into solid gold at a mere stroke of his hand. However, his delight soon turned into horror when he sat down for breakfast. The moment he touched a piece of bread, it hardened into a golden nugget, and the water in his goblet became a solid yellow metal. Realizing he could neither eat nor drink, he began to panic as hunger and thirst took hold.

The situation turned tragic when his beloved daughter ran to comfort him; as soon as he embraced her, she transformed into a lifeless golden statue. Distraught and weeping, Midas realized that his wealth was worthless if it cost him his happiness and his child. He prayed fervently to the stranger to take back the gift, finally understanding that love and life are far more precious than any mountain of gold.

10. Look at the following pie-chart. It shows the percentage of a family's household expenditure distributed into different categories. Now describe the pie-chart in your own words in about 150 words. You are advised to highlight and Summarize the information given in the pic-chart.    10

Answer :

The provided pie chart illustrates the distribution of a family's monthly household expenditure across six different categories: food, housing, education, health, transport, and savings.

The chart clearly shows that food is the primary expense for the family, accounting for the largest share at 35%. This is followed by housing and education, which are equally prioritized, each consuming 20% of the total budget. Together, these three categories—food, housing, and education—make up a staggering 75% of the family's total expenditure, indicating that the bulk of their income is spent on basic necessities and future development.

On the other hand, a smaller portion of the budget is allocated to secondary needs. Health accounts for 12%, while savings are quite low at only 5%. The least amount of money is spent on transport, which stands at a mere 3%.

In summary, the pie chart reveals that the family spends most of its income on essential living costs, particularly food, while leaving a very slim margin for savings and transportation. This suggests a budget that is heavily focused on immediate survival and education rather than luxury or long-term financial security.

11. Suppose you are Ahnaf Faiaz. You have a friend named Sanjida Rahman. She informed you about her plan after the SSC Examination. Now write an e-mail to your friend telling her what you intend to do after the SSC Examination.    10

Answer :

To: sanjida.rahman@email.com Subject: My plans after the SSC Examination

Dear Sanjida,

I hope this email finds you in good health and spirits. It was wonderful to hear about your plans for the break; your idea of taking a computer programming course sounds both productive and exciting! Since you asked, I wanted to share what I intend to do once our SSC Examinations are over.

After the exams, I plan to visit my ancestral village for a couple of weeks to spend quality time with my grandparents. While I am there, I want to start a small literacy campaign for the local children who lack access to formal tutoring. I believe sharing the knowledge we've gained is the best way to celebrate our graduation.

Additionally, I’ve decided to enroll in a Spoken English course and a basic photography workshop in the city. I’ve always had a passion for capturing nature, and I think this break is the perfect time to hone those skills before we dive into the rigors of college life.

I am really looking forward to this much-needed relaxation and self-improvement. Let’s meet up soon to discuss our plans in person!

Best regards,

Ahnaf Faiaz

12. Suppose you are Fardin. You have a friend named Robin. Robin goes to bed late and does not get up early. So, very often he goes to school late and feels drowsy in the classroom. Now, write a dialogue between you and your friend about the importance of early rising.     10

Answer :

Fardin: Hi Robin! I noticed you were late for the first period again today. Is everything okay?

Robin: Honestly, Fardin, I’m struggling. I barely made it to class, and now I feel so drowsy I can’t even focus on what the teacher is saying.

Fardin: I’ve noticed that happening quite often lately. What time do you usually go to bed?

Robin: Usually around 1:00 AM or 2:00 AM. I stay up playing games or scrolling through my phone. Consequently, I can’t wake up before 8:30 AM.

Fardin: That’s the problem, Robin. You are missing out on the immense benefits of early rising. There is a famous proverb: "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."

Robin: I’ve heard that, but is it really that important?

Fardin: Absolutely! When you rise early, you get a head start on the day. The morning air is fresh and oxygen-rich, which is great for your health. Plus, you have plenty of time to exercise and have a proper breakfast instead of rushing.

Robin: I suppose that would explain why I’m always so stressed in the morning.

Fardin: Exactly. Also, your brain is most alert in the early hours. If you study then, you’ll find you can memorize things much faster than late at night when you're already exhausted.

Robin: You’re right. My late-night habits are affecting my grades and my health. But it's hard to change the cycle.

Fardin: Start by going to bed just 30 minutes earlier each night. Once you start waking up early, you'll find you have more time for school, hobbies, and rest. You won't feel drowsy in class anymore.

Robin: Thanks for the advice, Fardin. I really want to feel more energetic. I’ll try to change my routine starting tonight.

Fardin: That’s the spirit! I’m sure you’ll feel the difference within a few days.
